After 16 years Shire of Capel chief executive officer Paul Sheedy will be stepping down from the position with Ian McCabe set start on July 2.
The shire council appointed Mr McCabe as the chief executive at its meeting on March 28.
Mr McCabe joins the shire after a five year appointment as CEO at the Shire of Wyalkatchem, guiding the organisation to a top 10 status in WA for financial health and sector leadership in emergency services, health and age friendly communities.
He said his passion for local government, coupled with his broad business and finance experience stands him in good stead to take over the reins from long standing chief executive Mr Sheedy who has been in the position for 16 years.
“I am looking forward to making a difference across the wider community,” he said.
“I am a great believer in communication, because if the message to the community isn’t understood and isn’t visionary you aren’t going to get support.
“I will be looking to add value to what is already being done and will look for opportunities to improve and contribute to the community.”
Capel Shire Council President Murray Scott welcomed the appointment of the new chief executive after a thorough recruitment process.
“Like anything new there are going to be changes and we look forward to working together and welcoming new opportunities,” Mr Scott said.
“I thank Paul for the outstanding contribution to local government, especially the Shire of Capel”.
