A new home-based parenting support service has been launched in the South West.
The program, which will be delivered by GP down south with funding from WA Country Health Service South West, provides a free service to families in the region.
The parenting support program is staffed by a team consisting of a coordinator, who is a registered child health nurse and three qualified and experienced parenting support workers.
Program coordinator Jill Hibben said the service complemented the WA Country Health Service’s current Child Health Service.
“A number of referrals have already been received for the program and we look forward to partnering with more families in the future,” she said.
“This initiative is a new way to deliver services to families, focusing on their needs and offering support to help them meet their goals.”
Parent support workers will visit families in their homes.
They will work with families to address concerns they have around key health and developmental milestones and offer extra support when needed.
They can help with routines, sleep, feeding and nutrition, getting ready for school and toilet training, as well as putting families in touch with support networks and finding playgroups.
The service will cover Bunbury, Harvey, Leschenault, Collie, Donnybrook, Busselton, Dunsborough, Margaret River, Augusta and Warren Blackwood.
