Bootleg Brewery Ladies Championship Fours

by Janice Paddick-Hoover
The ladies bowls section of the Dunsborough and Districts Country Club has just finished the Bootleg Brewery Championship Fours.
Over the two weeks the weather was more kind to the players and this ultimately resulted in close games. After the first week two teams had won all games, going into the second week with confidence.
There is only a slight difference among the bowlers with a lot depending on the day and so the remaining sides in the competition knew everyone was in with a chance to win.
The draw was set for each team to play each another and a great deal of interest was focused on the two unbeaten sides.
Megan Black skippered her team well with her third in Jill Winter playing superbly, lead Chris Coyle put in her usual unfaltering bowls while Jem Coupar welcomed the opportunity to prove her skills in second position.
Helen Reynolds was the skipper in the other unbeaten side. Lead Olive Jeanes is a bowler who should play more bowls as she is one dangerous player and a person others keep under observation. Liz Wilson was a very capable and gifted third, while Judy Henderson was second and is another talented bowler and a proven champion.
Therefore the championship scene was set with just this one game. The Black side triumphed in a well-earned victory. While the Reynolds side went on to win their last game and so finished the competition with just the one loss and runner-up to the champions lead by Megan Black.
